US President Donald Trump had a serious encounter on Christian Persecution with his Nigerian counterpart Muhammadu Buhari in April 2018 while they met in the White House. “Why are you killing Christians?” asked President Trump and the critical question shocked Buhari, reports Gatestone Institute and Raymond Ibrahim. The incident was admitted by the Nigerian President in a report published in September 2020.
Since 2009, more than 32000 Christians were killed by Islamic radicals. Apart from rape, torture, and killing, a considerable number of Christians have been displaced and over 2000 churches and worship centers have been destroyed. Over 620 Christians in Nigeria have been executed by Islamic radicals so far (2020), and around 12,000 have been killed over during the last five years. Islamic militants target Christian villages, as they find Christians as the chief obstacle to their plan. Christians account for 50 per cent of the Nigerian population.
Buhari became the President of Nigeria in 2015 and under his political leadership, the violent attacks on Christians have accelerated on genocide levels.
Even though President Trump questioned the killing of defenceless Christians in Nigeria, the situation was opposite during the Obama administration.
In the words of Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Nigerian minister of culture and tourism, “What Obama, John Kerry, and Hilary Clinton did to Nigeria by funding and supporting Buhari in the 2015 presidential election and helping Boko Haram in 2014/2015 was sheer wickedness and the blood of all those killed by the Buhari Administration, his Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram over the last 5 years are on their hands.”
