His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania, prayed Saturday, 29 October 2016, together with several hierarchs, members of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, for the victims of the Colectiv club fire. The memorial service was officiated by His Grace Varlaam of Ploieşti, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch. The names of all the victims were remembered during the service.

In his paternal word of consolation, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel pointed out that the Church prays continuously for those who died after the tragic event.

The prayers of remembrance for those who died in the Colectiv club fire are a spiritual benefaction for their souls, but also a consolation for their bereaved families, because the love that springs from faith and prayer is stronger than death (John 11: 25).

In addition, the Patriarch of Romania thanked all the clerics and faithful who were involved in helping the Colectiv fire victims and their families.

Furthermore, we thank all those who right after the tragic event, which occurred on 30 October 2015, have helped, by prayer and deed, the bereaved families and the wounded. We address a special thanks to our Dioceses, which offered financial help to every bereaved family, at different stages (Archdioceses of Bucharest, Cluj and Lower Danube). We thank the hospital chaplains, the spiritual fathers who have consoled the grieving and have guided spiritually the wounded. We also thank all the merciful and devout lay people, doctors, nurses and blood donors, who have manifested compassion towards the bereaved and solidarity with the wounded.

On 30 October 2015, after a powerful fire that broke out at Colectiv club in Bucharest, 64 persons lost their lives, and another 100 were wounded. Immediately after the tragic event, the Romanian Orthodox Church made efforts to help the victims of the Colectiv club fire victims and their families.
