The Committee on Rites of the Armenian Church meets in Antelias

June Last week: The Committee nominated by Holinesses Karekin II and Aram I began its two-day meeting at the Catholicosate of Cilicia in Antelias. The Committee is reviewing current ritual ceremonies of the Armenian Church and will propose changes to the Episcopal Conference to be held in Etchmiadzin in autumn. The representatives from the Holy See of Etchmiadzin are: Bishops Michael Atchabahyan, Arshag Khachatourian and Vahan Hovhannessian, and Rev. Zakaria Paghoumian.

The representatives from the Holy See of Cilicia are: Archbishops Gomitas Ohanian and Kegham Khacherian, and the Very Revd. Krikor Chiftjian. Three other clergy are attending the meeting as guests: Archbishops Varoujan Herkelian and Nareg Alemezian from the Catholicosate of Cilicia and The Very Revd. Tatoul Anoushian from the Patriarchate of Constantinople.

His Holiness Aram I hosted the members of the Committee at a lunch meeting on the first day. In his welcome, the Catholicos stressed the urgency of their task.
