Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II attends Christian-Muslim Religious Summit


Beirut: Following the invitation of the Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Raii, His Holiness Patriarch Moran Mor Ignatius Aphrem II participated in the Christian-Muslim Religious Summit convened at the Maronite Patriarchate in Bkerke.

The summit was attended by religious leaders from Lebanon including: Armenian Orthodox Catholicose Aram I, Syriac Catholic Patriarch Mor Ignatius Youssef III Younan, Greek Catholic Patriarch Gregorius III Lahham, Armenian Catholic Patriarch Nerses Bedros XIX and Apostolic Nuncio Mgr. Gabriele Caccia, as well as Grand Mufti of Lebanon Abdel-Latif Derian and Sheikh Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah. His Holiness was accompanied by His Eminence Mor Dionysius Jean Kawak, Patriarchal Assistant.

During the summit, His Holiness and their Beatitudes, Eminences and Graces discussed the current situation in the Middle East and Lebanon as well as the role of religious leaders in building peace in the region. At the end of the summit, a joint statement was published.
