One Year Memorial of the Late Lamented Patriarch Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas Observed in Damscus

Damascus: His Holiness Patriarch Moran Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated the Divine Liturgy (Holy Qurobo) on the occasion of the One Year Memorial of Late Lamented Patriarch Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas. The Holy Qurobo was attended by their Eminences Mor Dionysius Jean Kawak, Patriarchal Assistant, Mor Iwannis Boulos Al-Souqy, Patriarchal Vicar in the Patriarchal Diocese of Damascus, Mor Selwanos Boutros Al-Nehmeh, Archbishop of Homs, Hama and Environs, Mor Justinus Boulos Safar, Patriarchal Vicar in Zahleh and Beqaa, Mor Clemis Daniel Kourieh, Metropolitan of Beirut, Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Patriarchal Secretary and Mor Timotheos Matthew, Patriarchal Secretary for Indian Affairs.

Many bishops and priests representing the different Churches in Damascus.

His Holiness spoke of the many virutes of the Late Lamented Patriarch Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas. He said: “Patriarch Zakka Iwas is a great loss for the Syrian Orthodox Church and Syria”. He then spoke about his vast knowledge, many talents, great heart, ecumenical spirit and long years as a shepherd of the Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch.
