Moscow-Russia: The Church of the Transfiguration has been finally restored on the Russian Island of Kizhi. This remarkable Church topped with 22 domes, is said to be built (1714) without a single nail. However, the condition of the Church deteriorated over the years. There has been a lot of discussions between the engineers and politicians and the involvement of a number of commissions and international experts before the restoration process.

A Unesco World Heritage Centre, the legend says that the church was built with a single axe. It has been found that the Church was constructed by placing horizontal logs, even though modern engineers and architects are unable to explain the exact details of the building process.

As per the mandate to the Russian President Vladimir Putin a restoration program began in 2011. A restoration project worth 41.6m dollars was approved in 2008  and around 6.9m was spend for the restoration of the Church alone.
