Damascus: For the first time since he became patriarch, His Holiness Patriarch Moran Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated the rite of the consecration of the Holy Myron at the newly consecrated altar of the Martyrs of the Syriac Genocide Sayfo in Mor Aphrem Monastery in Maarat Saydnaya.

His Beatitude Catholicose Mor Baselius Thomas I, Maphryono of India, attended this solemn ceremony along with all the Archbishops and Metropolitans of our Syrian Orthodox Church.

Their Beatitudes Greek Orthodox Patriarch John X, Greek Melkite Catholic Patriarch Gregorius III Lahham and Syriac Catholic Patriarch Mor Ignatius Youssef III Younan also participated in this ceremony. Their Holinesses Catholicos Karekin II and Catholicos Aram I delegated representatives to participate in this solemn event.
In his speech, His Holiness spoke about the role of the Holy Spirit in sanctification of altars and consecration of bishops and archbishops.

He also spoke about the importance of celebrating this rite in Syria, praying that peace and security can once more reign in Syria.
