On July 27 His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Ukraine called to the Holy Trinity St Jonah Monastery in Kyiv. Accompanying His Holiness the Patriarch were chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokalamsk, chief of the administrative secretariat of the Moscow Patriarchy Bishop Sergy of Solnechnogorsk, chairman of the Synodal Department for Church-Society Relations archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, chairman of the Synodal Information Department V.Legoyda, deputy chairman of the DECR archpriest Nikolai Balashov.
Monastery Superior archimandrite Jonah Cherepanov together with the brethren welcomed the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.
In the crypt of the Holy Trinity Cathedral His Holiness bowed unto the relics of the Venerable Jonah of Kyiv, founder of the monastery. Then His Holiness the Patriarch passed to the sanctuary of the monastery church. From the ambo His Holiness blessed the representatives of the youth organizations who gathered in the church.
After an introductory word archimandrite Jonah Cherepanov presented a number of youth enlightenment and social programs: “Spiritual talks for Orthodox youth”, “Orthodox volunteers’ movement “Youth is not indifferent”, “Movement of the Orthodox Scouts in Ukraine”, International Youth Organization “Vernoe Kazachestvo”(Faithful Cossaks), “spiritual Educational work with Orthodox community of hearing-impaired”, “Orthodox magazine for Youth “Otrok.ua’”. The presentations were accompanied by photo and video materials.
In conclusion His Holiness shared his ideas of the prospects of development of the youth ministry in the Church.
As a present to the Holy Trinity St Jonah Monastery the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church offered an icon of the Venerable Sergius of Radonezh, and instructed to distribute little icons of the Mother of God among those attending.
