On Saturday, December 26, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in concelebration of the hierarchs of the UOC and the clergymen of the Diocese of Kyiv conducted the thanksgiving prayer service. By tradition he celebrates this divine office at the end of every year.
Praying together with the clergymen were Prime-Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko, Vice-Prime Minister of Ukraine Ivan Vasiunnyk, Foreign Affairs Minister Petro Poroshenko, Minister for Family, Youth and Sport Yuriy Pavlenko, Health Protection Minister Vasyl Knyazevytch, deputies of the city mayor Vitaliy Zhuravskyy and Serhiy Rudyk, other high officials and representatives of the diplomatic corps.
Before the beginning of the divine office His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr addressed those present with a word of instruction.
“At the end of every year we gather here, at the footing of our great Prince and the Baptizer of Rus, in order to lift thanksgiving prayers to God for what he has given us this year and to ask His blessing for the coming year. Let’s pray today that the Lord strengthens all of us and blesses us with peace”, said the Archpastor.
Following the prayer service all those willing venerated the icon of the Baptizer of Rus – the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Volodymyr with a piece of his venerable relics.
