Global: ‘Ethiopia is inching towards a grave humanitarian crisis’ stated George Alexander, Secretary of Orthodoxy Cognate PAGE, Pan-Orthodox Christian Society. “The recent conflict between TPLF (Tigrayan Peoples Liberation Front) and the Federal Government is yet another example of the fragile and dangerous internal situation in the country. It has created a great imbalance in peace and security in the Horn of Africa region. Many are leaving the Tigrayan area for Sudan and other nearby countries. Countless people were killed and it is expected that a large number of people will be displaced as a result of the armed conflict”.
“Ethiopia has been experiencing intense ethnic religious and political unrest in recent times. The attacks initiated by radical Oromo groups on non-Oromo communities resulted in a massive loss of lives and destruction of infrastructure. The Ethiopian Church and Orthodox Christians were heavily targeted by the Oromo Islamic extremists during the attacks” the Secretary concluded during a meeting with a committee of Ethiopian experts.
The Orthodoxy Cognate PAGE, Pan-Orthodox Christian Society was one of the first organizations to respond to the Ethiopian crisis. For the past few years, the OCP Society has been readily involved in generating awareness by publishing field-level reports on OCP Media Network about the on-going genocide in Ethiopia. The Secretariat of the Orthodoxy Cognate PAGE (Pan-Orthodox Christian Society) filed several petitions and submitted reports on the ongoing persecution of Christians in Ethiopia to the UN and various international and human rights organizations.
