Tbilisi-Georgia: A controversy has erupted in Georgian over the leaked ‘Church documents’ as a result of the State Security Spying. ‘Some officer’ working at the State Security Services has leaked several files containing classified information on numerous clergymen of the Georgian Orthodox Church. it has been reported that nearly 3,000 documents were collected by the State Security service of the Georgian government. Most of the files comprises information on Georgian Orthodox clergy that consist sensitive details regarding allegations of pedophilia, details on the criminal past, exchange with foreign agents, use of drugs and LGB.
However Spokesperson and head of the PR department of the Georgian Patriarchate Archpriest Andria Jagmaidze stated that tThe forces involved in disclosing the details of the alleged covert surveillance are trying to use the Church to manipulate elections. Illegal surveillance and disclosure of such materials are completely unacceptable if proven”.
