New York City – USA: Players from two Orthodox nations will clash at the 2021 US Open final on the 13th of September 2021 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, in New York. Novak Djokovic of Serbia will meet Daniil Medvedev of Russia on the court. Djokovic aims for a golden slam, while Medvedev could emerge as the giant killer. On the 11th of July 2021, Djokovic created history by winning his sixth Wimbledon title.
Djokovic is a faithful of the Serbian Orthodox Church. In the year 2011, he was awarded the highest award of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Order of St. Sava of the First Degree by His Holiness Patriarch for his contributions to generosity and religion. Djokovic is famous for making the sign of the Orthodox cross while playing on the court. However, there is no mention of the religious affiliation of Daniil Medvedev.
Regardless of the Post-Soviet developments in Europe, Orthodox nations Russia and Serbia maintain strong cultural, religious and political ties.
