Tiblisi-Georgia: In a recent letter Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II urged Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, and Culture Minister Tea Tsulukiani to return the Ancha Icon of the Savior to the Georgian Orthodox Church, reports Civi.ge. As of now, the icon is preserved at the Art Museum in the capital city of Tbilisi. The Patriarch Stated that enough work has been carried out for the preservation of the icon by the Church.
The Primate also hoped that the State and the Chruch can jointly protect the icon and its handing over will be a good example of Church-State cooperation. The Catholicos is also of the opinion that the would be one of the greatest gifts Church can receive from the Georgian government.
