I’m not a theologian nor a researcher but my brother let me tell you something you already know. My guide is the holy spirit and not human knowledge. And i can clearly see where you are wrong. And please don’t say we protestants or the protestants views are these. That is only your understanding. What ever you have found researching, it should be confirming the word of God. When we say we are sola scriptura we are not saying anything out side of the bible is bad, we are saying anything which comes in addition should only confirm what is already written not add something’s to it. I don’t need to write a four or five page explanation for it. But just to give you a short example; in the beginning you wrote the argument about praying to the saints. You said at the end of your argument your orthodox friend will say “Yes, but Christ has abolished death,” would come the (scripturally-based) Orthodox response. “Those who die in Him are present with Him and like Him, though of course He remains Creator and they created.” what I wanted to know is what did you think? I mean about the saints who are dead(physically). Did you used to think that their souls are dead too? That is just so confusing for a person who is claiming to be a theologian. I don’t know about you but We also believe that they are alive we only said prayer is only given to the one true God! And even if you prayed to them they won’t be able to listen to your prayers unless u claim they have God’s attributes. That is, for e.g. If I’m praying to marry here in Africa and you are praying to her at the same time in another continent, if you don’t claim that she has God’s attributes, how in the world is she going to hear our prayers? You can not simply say she can with out any basis for it. I only wrote this just as an example. I could go all day on the others. But like I said there is no point of that. But if you really really want to know the truth just pray with all your power. May God help you.

Certainly I have compassion for all of us mentally manipulated in such challenging times to various fundamentalist faiths whether called evangelistic or orthodox. But as a recovering Baptist and Catholic (family schism), I found the Orthodox church likewise empty of the true compassion of Jesus (or Mary, for that matter). The prostration and superficiality of a guilt-laden “forgiveness” vespers service at the beginning of Lent, as practiced in Orthodoxy, is one of the darkest experiences I have ever sat through.

Moreover, if you believe gospel accounts not only are we not to call any man on earth our father, but it is really creepy to be asked to prostrate before and receive prostration as part of Orthodox pseudo-forgiveness from the priest called a father in Orthodoxy (in his fancy black vestments after being out of sight behind the holy doors on the platform of worship, thus obviously in a one-up position to the congregation).

Thank you very much, but I don’t need an “infallible” church, an “infallible” pope, an “infallible” bible (paper pope) or anything else purporting to be infallible that Jesus never decreed and never developed in the earthly ministry over 2,000 years ago. Jesus forgives me. That’s more than enough.

I grew up in the Evangelical Orthodox Church and remember vividly how we, as parishioners, yearned to become truly Orthodox. It was a long haul. I also recall aspects of our community life that could be construed as being “cultish”. It has taken a long time for me to sort it all out for myself — thankfully, I now attend a parish where the priest, though a convert, goes out of his way to be a humble servant and example to us all.

In some ways my childhood was very exciting — I remember seeing Fr. Schmemann and Matushka Juliana, Fr. Lazar, Patriarch Aleksei, Fr. Lazarus Moore, and other notable personalities. I ended up living in Russia for a while, where I came face to face with the tragic results of decades of state-enforced atheism. Perhaps because of my strict upbringing, I allow my children to explore what the world has available, and hope that they will return to the beauty of Pascha, to light candles while the priest sings: “Come take light from the Light that is never overtaken by night …”

There is a small group of Konkani speaking families settled in and around Mumbai, originated from St.Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Church, Brahmavar. Their poor forefathers came to Mumbai in search of employment. They started a small club (kude) by the name of St.Mary’s Club Brahmavar, at Station Road, Byculla, Mumbai, in or around 1950. In this “Kude” some of our members, who did not have a roof over their head, stayed with their meagre belongings. Later this “Kude” was shifted to the present place at Chakala, Andheri East, Mumbai. For our spiritual needs, now a Priest from Brahmavar comes once in a month to celebrate the Holy Qurbaan in Konkani.

Now the need of the hour is, we the Konkani speaking Brahmavarians need to build a Church of our own, in Mumbai ( or have a separate Hall ) for Sunday Holy Quarbaans and other spiritual support for the community. Please help and support us and please, please, do not ignore us.
