The Conference entitled Medicine and Spirituality – a multi-disciplinary tackling of the aged patient continues at the Patriarchate Palace today, 20 April 2012. The proceedings were resumed with the opening speech of His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, entitled Medical and Spiritual Care for the Aged Persons.
His Beatitude said that the Church has always understood that life and good health are gifts of God which must be cultivated – informs Trinitas Radio station. In this sense, according to the example of the Saviour, the vocation of the Church is to unite the teaching of faith with the healing the diseases and alleviation of sufferance.
In the context of the global crisis we are faced with, the Church is deeply concerned with the state of social abandon and lack of interest for the life and dignity of the aged persons, very often poor lonely and sick people, showed the Patriarch of Romania.
Organised by the Romanian Patriarchate and “Antibiotics” Medicine Company, the conference is going to identify some solutions for the good health of the aged patients so that they may keep on having an active role in society, no matter their age.
The event is part of the series of activities dedicated to the Homage year of the Holy Unction and looking after the sick in the Romanian Patriarchate.
