The Coptic Orthodox Church of Japan – July 2016 VISIT FACEBOOK PAGE: A new church was consecrated in Kyoto, Japan on the 15 of July2016. Bishop DanielBishop of the Coptic  Orthodox Church Diocese of Sydney and Affiliated Region presided over the ceremony and over 100 participants from Japan,Egypt, Ethiopia, and Eritrea were present for the occasion. The Coptic Orthodox Church has been active in Japan since 2004. The new 3 storey building, named after St.Mary and St. Mark was purchased from another denomination  and has been in use for over 30 years. A restoration of the original silk painting of a missionary bishop of the Church of the East, now in the British Museum, London, discovered by Sir Aurel Stein at Tun-huang, western China, in 1908.
