“Severus of Antioch” Symposium

Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate – 28/5/18

For the 1500 Jubilee of the Exile of Patriarch Mor Severus the Great to Egypt, the Department of Syriac Studies at the Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch held a Symposium on the great Saint entitled: “Severus of Antioch” on May 25, 2018 at the Patriarchal Residence in Atchaneh – Lebanon.

His Eminence Mor Chrysostomos Mikhael Chamoun, Patriarchal Vicar and Director of the Patriarchal Benevolent Institutions in Atchaneh, inaugurated the symposium on behalf of His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II who was on a visit to India.

Then, different papers were presented as follows; Dr. Frederic Alpi: “The translation of the writings of Severus of Antioch into Syriac: historical steps and ecclesial consequences (in French)”, Dr. Youhanna Youssef: “The quotation of Severus of Antioch in a work of the Eighteenth century (in English)”, Very Rev. Raban Dr. Roger Akhrass: “The figure of the Apostle Peter in the writings of Severus of Antioch (in French)”, Fr. Abdo Badwi: “The Iconography of Mar Severus of Antioch (in English)”, Very Rev. Raban Dr. Youhanna Habil: “The Ecumenical Impact of the theology of Severus of Antioch in the 21st century (in French)”, Proto-Archmandrite Hayr Shahe Ananyan: “Severus of Antioch: Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Perspectives (in English)”, Mr. Fadi Baroudi (& Raban Dr. Roger Akhrass): “Patriarch Severus of Antioch in the Maronite Liturgy (in Arabic)”, and Fr. Hegumen Arseny: “Spiritual Heritage of Syriac Christians (in English)”.

His Eminence Archbishop Eznik Petrosyan represented the Holy Sea of Etchmiatzin at the symposium.
