Divine Liturgy & the ‘Blessing of Grape’ held at the Armenian Orthodox Church of Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi: On 12/7/16, a delegation of (George Alexander Secretary, Prakash Varghese-Delegate of Gulf, Levant & All Middle East, Nisha Varghese – Associate in UAE Region) the Orthodoxy Cognate PAGE Society (Pan-Orthodox Christian Movement) were special invitees at the Holy Martyrs Armenian Orthodox Church. or the Divine Liturgy and blessing of Grapes ceremony. At the end of the ceremony, the OCP Delegation presented Fr Mesrob Sarkissian, the Armenian Orthodox Catholicosal Vicar of UAE & Qatar (Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church) with unique Indian Icon of St. Peter and St Thomas.

The icon resembles the equality and unity of Apostles in Christ. This is the first icon of St Peter and St Thomas written in Indian Iconography style. Former recipients of the icon are His Holiness Ignatius Aphrem II of the Antioch of the Syriac Orthodox Church and His Holiness Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church.

This unique piece is prepared by Fr Bobby Varghese (director of Mar Baselius School of Icon Writing & Liturgy of the Indian Malankara Orthodox Church) for OCP Foundation. Fr Bobby is an alumnus of St Vladimir Orthodox Theological Seminary in New York. Fr Bobby specialises in Orthodox icon writing and has developed an Indian style of the sacred art.
