Malankara- Kerala-India: Indian Orthodox Malankara Church has announced rehabilitation programs of rupees 10 crores ($14,31,700) for the victims of the devastating floods that ravaged Malankara (Kerala). A large number of volunteers of the Malankara Church are actively rendering their voluntary services in different parts of the State alongside other volunteers to support the flood victims. Several Church organizations are contributing to the efforts as well.
His Holiness Baselios Paulose II (Catholicos on the Apostolic Throne of St. Thomas and Malankara Metropolitan) announced the below programs during the press meet held on 20/8/18 at Catholicate Palace.
Home reconstruction support for 1000 eligible families.
Food security program for 1000 eligible and poor families under the Ardhra- the Service wing of the Church
Medical help through hospitals and clinics in the affected area.
Trauma and rehabilitation counseling services will be provided through Vipasana- the counseling and guidance cell of the Church.
An educational aide will be provided for those students whose studies have been affected by the flood.
The Church will participate in the cleaning of public and other places (through its youth and student wings OCYM and MGOCSM) that are affected by the flood.
Supply of food and clothing will be coordinated through the spiritual organizations of the Church.
The Church will provide financial aide to eligible people who have lost domestic animals during the flood.
The Church has urged faithful to observe 24th Friday as ‘fasting day’ and generously contribute to rehabilitative efforts.
