Ethiopian Orthodox Church Denounces the ‘Oromia Orthodox Movement’ – Leaders Suspended

Addis Abab-Ethiopia: The emergency meeting of the holy synod of the Ethiopian Church discussed various key topics of interest. The holy synod will submit charges against three media agencies namely OBN, OMN, LTV to the Ethiopian broadcasting authority for various reasons.

The Synod temporarily suspended the leaders of the ‘Oromio Orthodox Movement’. Liqe Aelaf Qesis Belay Mekonen, Aba Gebre Mariyam Negasa, Qese Bedada Tola, and Preacher Haile Michael Tadese were suspended until they sincerely regret, and return to the Mother church. The synod also denounced the recently established church in the USA under the so-called Oromia Orthodox Movement.

A request will be submitted to the Addis Ababa city administration to obtain official permission in bole 24 kebele for the Church, where two Orthodox Christians were killed last month in the police firing.

The Synod will request the federal and regional security authorities and other concerned bodies to obtain special protection for the two largest and historical monasteries Debre Libanos St. Tekle Haymanot as well as for the Zequala St. Gebre Menfes Kidus monastery which has become recent targets of political extremists.

The synod thanked Prime Minster Dr. Abyi for his efforts in obtaining permission to establish the first Ethiopian Church in the United Arab Emirates.
