DEVELOPMENTS IN THE CULTURAL COOPERATION BETWEEN THE CATHOLICOSATE OF CILICIA AND THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA

Catholicosate of Cilicia – November 2019

On Friday 8th and Saturday 9th of November, 2019, on behalf of the Armenian Church, Catholicosate of Cilicia, Archbishop Shahan Sarkissian, Director of the Library and Ancient Book Department at the Catholicosate, participated at the international conference “The Rescue of Armenians in the Middle East, 1915-1923” organized by the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, in Armenia, and offered his presentation entitled “From Orphanage to Catholicosate: the Establishment of the Catholicosate of Cilicia in Antelias.”

Furthermore, the Archbishop held an official meeting with the direction of the Institute and on November 8th, 2019, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Madenataran “Mesrob Mashdots Research Institute of Ancient Manuscripts” and the Library of the Catholicosate, to further strengthen and develop the cooperation, as well as give new impetus especially to Armenian manuscripts research projects.

Archbishop Shahan also visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex, the National Archives of Armenia and Gomidas Museum-Institute, and explored possibilities for cooperation.
