Catholicos to consecrate renovated St Stephen’s Orthodox Church, Salalah, on Jan 9, 10, 2020.

SALALAH, Sultanate of Oman: HH Moran Mor Baselios Marthoma Paulose II – (Primate of the Indian Orthodox Malankara Church, Catholicos of the East & Malankara Metropolitan, Moopan and Chief Custodian of the Malankara Nasranis) will lead the consecration ceremony of the renovated St Stephen’s Orthodox Church, Salalah on January 9, 10, 2020.

On October 18, 2019, Ahmedabad Diocese Metropolitan HG Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios, led the holy sacrament ceremony of the main door for the renovated church. The ceremony was held in the presence of St Stephen’s Orthodox Church, Salalah Vicar/President Fr Philip Varghese, and a large number of faithful after the holy liturgy.

One of the four Indian Orthodox Churches under Orthodox Diocese of Ahmedabad (ODA), the Salalah parish is named after Saint Stephen recognized as a saint and first martyr in Christian theology.

The construction works of the renovated church is presently being undertaken and are expected to be completed by December 25, 2019.
The scheduled consecration ceremony will be held in two parts on January 9, Thursday and January 10, Friday.

On January 10, HH Catholicos will lead the holy liturgy in a tri-mass along with HG Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, Metropolitan, Diocese of Bombay, HG Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros, Metropolitan of Madras, and Synod Secretary, with HG Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios as the co-celebrants.

The architect for the construction is by Anil from Creative Designer and Consultant, Salalah. Biji Varghese is the contractor from Al Sarfait Contracting Company and Vijumon Varghese, Ms. Chippy Vijumon and Fr Philip Varghese as designers. A souvenir will also be released during the consecration ceremony.
