BENGALURU — His Holiness Moran Mar Baselious Marthoma Paulose II, Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan, Primate of the Indian Malankara Orthodox Church will be the chief celebrant at the centenary celebrations of the establishment of the Catholicate (1912-2012) in India, the 1960th year of establishment of the Malankara Orthodox Church and sanctification ceremony of Bengaluru Diocese on October 23, 2012 from 9 am.
The sanctification ceremony will be for the Diocesan Centre and Bishop’s House of the Bengaluru Diocese which will be located at No 1, Malankara Veedhi at Doddagubbi, on the outskirts of the metropolis.
The co-celebrants for the sanctification ceremony will be Their Graces Dr Yuhanon Mar Diascoros, Metropolitan of Madras Diocese and Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios, Metropolitan of Ahmedabad Diocese.
HG Dr Abraham Mar Seraphim, Metropolitan of Bengaluru Diocese will also address the ceremony. MLAs, MLCs and a local corporator will be gracing the function.
In the evening at the Christ University Auditorium, the Catholicos will set the tone by delivering the presidential address for the Catholicate Centenary Celebration before which HG Dr Abraham Mar Seraphim will deliver the welcome address.
Shri K Sankaranarayanan, Governor of Maharashtra state will deliver the inaugural address and light the traditional lamp.
Rev Dr Fr Thomas Aykara, CMI, The Chancellor, Christ University, will also address the celebrations.
R Ashok, Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Karnataka, will deliver the key-note address.
There will also be felicitations by Rev Fr Dr Johns Abraham Konnat, Priest Trustee, M G George Muthoot, Lay Trustee, Very Rev T K Thomas Cor Episcopa, General Convenor. Dr G Parameshwar, KPCC President, and legislators Satish Reddy, K J George, will also felicitate. The celebrations will also see presentation of mementos. Very Rev P C Philip Cor-Episcopa, will deliver the vote of thanks.
The piece-de-resistance of the evening will be an hour-long liturgical Symphony of Oriental Orthodox chants or La Moriyo Zegtho led by Rev Fr John Samuel or Roy Achen before which a documentary will be screened.
