On 13 August 2017, His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, officiated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in the Cathedral church of Nis and on this occasion he elevated His Grace Arsenije (Glavcic) to the Throne of Diocesan Bishops of Nis – The event was attended by envoy of the President of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Nikola Selakovic, Mayor of Nis Darko Bulatovic, high representatives of the Armed Forces of Serbia, public and cultural life of Nis – The Liturgy and enthronement was attended Apostolic Nuntio in Serbia Luciano Suriani and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Belgrade Stanislav Hocevar.

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, officiated the Solemn Liturgy with the concelebration of: His Eminence Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb-Ljubljana, Their Graces Bishops: Arsenije of Nis, Irinej of Backa, Justin of Zica, Pahomije of Vranje, Jovan of Sumadia, Ignjatije of Branicevo, Fotije of Dalmatia, Joanikije of Budimlje-Niksic, Teodosije of Raska-Prizren, David of Krusevac, Jovan of Slavonia, Ilarion of Timok, Joakim of Polog-Kumanovo, Vicar Bishop David of Stobi.

The Patriarch was also concelebrate by Bishop Polycarp of Belogradchik, Vicar of the Metropolitan of Vidin (Bulgarian Orthodox Church);  Their Eminences from the Greek Orthodox Church: Panteleimon of Veria, George of Kitrus and Justin of Kalamaria; Bishop Gregory of Mesaoria (Church of Cyprus); High Venerable Procopios Tufik from the Patriarchate of Antioch.

The Solemn Liturgy was attended by Bishop Hrizostom of Zvornik-Tuzla, newly-elected Metropolitan of Dabar-Bosna and Very Venerable Archimandrite Nikodim, newly elected Bishop (episcopus electus) of Dalmatia.

During the Holy Liturgy also many priests from the local Diocese of Nis as well as from other dioceses of the Serbian Orthodox Church concelebrated.

Church choirs from Prokuplje, Pirot, Leskovac, Nis and Aleksinac  under  guidance of Mrs Sara Cincarevic sang responses during the Liturgy

On behalf of the Roman Catholic Church this solemn event was attended by Archbishop Luciano Suriani, Apostolic Nuntio in Belgrade; Monsignor Stanislav Hocevar, Metropolitan of Belgrade; Fra Leopold Rohmes, general Vicar and Cathedral spiritual.

The enthronement was attended by: Mr. Nikola Selakovic, Secretary General of the President of Serbia; Mr.Marko Nikolic, Advisor to the Director of the Office for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Communities Mileta Radojevic,PhD; Ilias Iliadis, Ambassador of the Republic of Greece; Archimandrite Dositej, abbot of the Grgeteg Monastery with Professor of the Seminary of Sremski Karlovaci protopresbyter Jovan Milanovic, as well as by lots of people from public and cultural life of Nis and its area.

Representatives of the urban and local authorities with Mayor of the City of Nis Mr. Darko Bulatovic, as well as representatives of the Armed Forces of Serbia also attended the solemn Liturgy.

The Cathedral church was also full with the faithful from the Diocese of Nis and from other dioceses in Serbia, clergy from numerous Belgrade’s churches, monks from many monasteries.
