Constantinople-Turkey: His Beatitude Archbishop-Patriarch Mesrob II Mutafyan of Constantinople of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church has entered eternal rest at the age of 62. He was the 84th Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople, which is one of two regional Sees (other being Jerusalem) of the Armenian Orthodox Church.
Patriarch Mesrob II Mutafyan was under medical treatment for Alzheimer’s (for a long period of time). The hospital press release stated that he passed away on 8/3/19 as a result of a heart attack.
Mesrob II Mutafyan became the Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople on 14th October 1998. However, the Prelate fell sick in July 2008.
Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople was established in 1461. The Patriarchate is autocephalous in nature. It recognizes the spiritual supremacy of the Catholicos-Patriarch at the Mother See of Holy Echmiadzin.
