With the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, His Grace Timotei of Prahova, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest, officiated on Wednesday, 09 December 2015, the 40 day Memorial Service after the fire which took place at Collective Club in Bucharest, on 30 October 2015, following which 60 persons, mostly young people, tragically lost their lives.
In his funeral sermon, His Grace Bishop Timotei of Prahova said that in the near future the Orthodox Archdiocese of Bucharest intends to place a marble cross in place of the wooden cross now existent where the families of those departed will be able to pray, place candles and remember their names. When we remember someone in our prayers it means that we keep that person in our care and love, His Grace also said. The Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest also talked about the importance of the 40 day memorial service. The Church teaches us that the 40th day after the passing from this world of one’s soul, the soul is presented before the particular judgement seat, needing to give an answer before the Righteous Judge for what he or she has done during this life. These prayers show us that love is more powerful than death.
They also show us that love cannot be killed by the tombstone and assures us that by these prayers we, the ones having hope, also hope to be one day together with the ones we have loved, with the ones we have been in communion with, His Grace Bishop Timotei of Prahova also said. Together with His Grace Bishop Timotei, numerous clergymen and faithful prayed for the rest of the souls of those departed to the Lord.
