Addis Ababa : The Late Patriarch of Ethiopia was laid to rest at the Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral in Addis Ababa on Thursday 23rd of August 2012. More than two lakh people flocked to the Cathedral compound to bid farewell to their beloved Patriarch. Delegations from sister Orthodox Churches, non-Orthodox Churches and different ecumenical bodies took part in the funeral rites.

Metropolitan delegations from Coptic, Armenian, Greek and Indian Malankara Orthodox Churches held special prayers at the funeral. The Syrian Orthodox Church was represented by Archbishop Mattiyas Nayis. The Locum Tenets of the Coptic Church Bishop Bakomios

The high level Roman Catholic delegation took part in the ceremony under the leadership of Cardinal Kurt Koch who is the president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. The Ethiopian Catholic Rite Bishops attended the ceremony. Olav Fykse Tveit, WCC General Secretary also made his presence at the funeral ceremony.
