Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin
On October 9, in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Grace Bishop Arshak Khachatrian, Chancellor of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, received Mr. Zhores Alferov, a physicist and Nobel Prize winner who is also a member of the Duma, the Russian State Parliament.
On behalf of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, His Grace Arshak welcomed the visit of the outstanding scientist, and expressed his joy for the visit as well as for the close relation and cooperation existing between scientists of the two countries. Discussing the relations of faith and science, they stressed the importance of the progress and achievements of religion and science in modern life.
At the conclusion of the meeting His Grace placed great importance on the contributions of Doctor Alferov in the study of physics, and wished him success in his future activities.

On the same day, Bishop Arshak received a delegation led by Mr. Nikolay Levin, Mayor of Petrozavodsk of the Russian Federation. Petrozavodsk is a Sister City with the city of Vagharshapat, where the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin is located.
His Grace welcomed the participation of the Mayor in the recent celebration dedicated to the establishment of Vagharshapat, expressing his confidence that it would contribute to the development and strengthening of the relations and cooperation between the towns.
The Chancellor of the Mother See and the Mayor of Petrozavodsk discussed the daily life and activities of the Armenian community of Petrozavodsk. The Mayor stressed the participatory role of the Armenian community in the economic and cultural life of the town.
During the meeting they also talked about the fraternal relations between the Armenian Apostolic and Russian Orthodox Churches.
