Ethiopian Orthodox church followers celebrate Demera

Addis Ababa, September 28 (WIC) – Ethiopian Orthodox church followers on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 evening marked Demera, which commemorates the finding of the True Cross.

The event was celebrated colorfully at Meskel Square, Addis Ababa, in the presence of thousands of Orthodox Church followers, tourists, ambassador and diplomats.

Priests and deacons, Sunday school students dressed in traditional Ethiopian plain white clothes added color to the event by singing hymn.

Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Abune Paulos, who lit the bonfire together with Mayor of Addis Ababa City, Kuma Demeksa, urged followers of the religion to strive for further development.

Kuma on his part said called upon all Ethiopians to rally alongside the government for the successful achievement of the five-year Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP).
