The chief guest on this occasion was H..G. Dr. Yuhanon Mor Militos, Metropolitan of Thrissur diocese. Soon after the flag hoisting ceremony and a vociferous national anthem, the kids of the school presented an enthralling display of song and dance. The students of the STOTS who were present, also put in performances of their own, making it a lively and heart-warming function.
Prerana Special School is for the poor mentally challenged children started by the initiation and inspiration of the St. Thomas Orthodox Theological Seminary, Nagpur. At present there are about 60 students who are from nearby poor villages. Out of these, 30 are full time residents of the Prerana Hostel and the rest are day scholars. These children come from very poor backgrounds and here in the institution they are given special training and education with the help of specially trained teachers and care takers, without collecting any fees or amount from them.
They are given vocational training in card making, screen printing, wall hanging, cooking, farming etc. so that they can be self reliable to some extent. They are also trained in sports, dance etc.
