Palestinian dignitaries visit His Holiness at the St. Aphrem Monastery, Damascus
St. Aphrem Seminary, Damascus: On Wednesday 24th June, Sheikh Taysir Al-Tamimi, the Chief of the Islamic Courts of the Palestinian, the H.E. Ambassador of Palestine, and other dignitaries visited our Holy father His Holiness Igntaius Zakka I Iwas at the Patriarchal residence in the Monastery of St. Aphrem, Ma’arrat Saidnaya, Damascus. H.E. Mor Gregorios Yohanna Ibrahim, the Syriac Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo archdiocese also accompanied the delegation. On the occasion, the Sheikh Tayseer Al-Tamimi and the delegation accompanying him, presented some souvenirs to His Holiness the Patriarch, and awarded the holy father with the scarf symbolizing the Arab character of Palestine and the struggle of the Palestinian people.
The delegation visited Damascus to attend the International Conference on the subject, “Jerusalem in the Ottoman Empire”, held by the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the Research Center for History, Art and Islamic Culture in Istanbul (IRCICA). Other than the Metropolitan of Aleppo, the Syriac Orthodox Church was represented at the conference by Mor Philoxinus Mattias Nayis, the Patriarchal Assistant and Metropolitan of St. Aphrem Theological Seminary, Mor Clemis Daniel Kourieh, Metropolitan of Beirut.
