Tbilisi, May 28, Interfax – The Georgian authorities should to take effective steps to ease the tensions in the country, possibly through early elections, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II said on a statement issued on Thursday.
“I believe that the authorities should take effective steps to ease the tensions in the country, regardless of whether it would be the early elections, negotiations, or something else,” the Patriarch said in his statement.
The Patriarch said in his statement that the words his speech given at the service held in the Holy Trinity Cathedral on May 26, which called for dialogue, was incorrectly interpreted by the authorities, who regarded the Patriarch’s words as being in their support.
